If you have a citation to a specific item in the health sciences literature, we most likely can provide a copy of it for you. The University of Minnesota's Bio-Medical Library has one of the country's best collections, with over 4,500 current journal subscriptions and more than 400,000 volumes. Many of our books and audiovisual materials are available for loan, and we can provide photocopies of journal articles and book chapters, in accordance with U.S. Copyright law. If you need copies of an item not in the Bio-Medical Library, we can try and obtain it on referral from another source.
We offer a variety of turnaround times and delivery options to meet your information deadlines. Please note that orders are subject to our Terms, Conditions and Copyright Restrictions
Beginning July 1st, 2005 BIS will pay copyright royalties on every document we supply. The royalties will be paid to rights holders through the Transactional Reporting Service of the Copyright Clearance Center (CCC). Copyright will be charged in addition to current BIS fees, which have not changed. See our Terms and Conditions.

- Citation Clarification: We will charge research time to clarify citations that do not include correct author(s), title, journal title, volume, page and date. Charges average $7.00 per citation, but especially poor citations may exceed this cost. Research time is charged at $1.00/minute, plus any applicable rush fees.
- Color Photocopies: Available for an additional $1.50 per page.
- Copyright: The Biomedical Information Service pays publisher-set copyright royalties to the Copyright Clearance Center on a per-article basis. In most cases, these fees will be a significant component of the final price of document delivery. If you are concerned about the copyright royalties for your request, please check the charges for specific journal titles at the Copyright Clearance Center's website
- Other: When orders require exceptional effort or time BIS reserves the right to charge additional fees and/or adjust turn-around time. A member of the BIS management team will contact you to discuss the terms before processing such an order.
