Beginning July 1st, 2005, the Biomedical Information Service (BIS) will pay copyright royalties on every document we supply. The royalties will be paid to rights holders through the Transactional Reporting Service of the Copyright Clearance Center (CCC). Copyright will be charged in addition to current BIS fees, which have not changed. You can check the royalty charge for specific journal titles at the Copyright Clearance Center's Website BIS reserves the right to refuse to accept an order for copying if, in its judgement, filling the order would involve violation of copyright law. The Biomedical Information Service assumes no liability for legal compliance of its clients. The Biomedical Information Service (BIS) strives to provide high quality service in a timely manner at an affordable price. BIS reserves the right to charge additional fees and/or adjust turn-around time for orders which require exceptional effort or time. BIS reserves the right to refuse any order. Bibliographically complete citations should be provided and include the title of journal or book, title of article or chapter, volume, date of publication, issue number, page numbers, ISSN or ISBN, and author's name and initials. BIS may charge research time to clarify incomplete, illegible, or vague citations. Citation clarification fees average $7.00 per item, but may exceed this cost. Research time is charged at $1.00/minute. Orders may be taken over the phone, but an additional fee of $2.00 per citation will be charged. BIS attempts to provide the best quality copy possible, however the condition of the original item, and mechanical limitations of duplicating and transmission technologies may limit the quality of duplication. BIS is unable to guarantee complete legibility, and assumes no liability for accuracy or completeness of the information provided. |
BIS assumes no liability for loss or inconvenience caused by inability to complete an order within the specified time frame nor guarantee speed of delivery once an order leaves our office. Once a request has been made to BIS, it may not be possible to cancel the order. If an item is requested more than one time by mistake, BIS may complete and bill for each request. The requester is liable for all incurred charges and copyright obligations. At your request BIS will attempt to obtain for you copies of items not in our collection. Because this service relies on outside sources, BIS is unable to guarantee procurement, date of completion, or price. BIS does not borrow original items such as books, theses, videos, etc. Please be advised that materials you request may be protected under United States Copyright Law (Title 17 U.S. Code), which governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials. Law may also prohibit the permanent storage of materials in electronic format which have been transmitted to you electronically. Further reproduction or distribution of provided materials in any format may be prohibited. The purpose of the Biomedical Information Service's Research Service is to provide assistance in surveying health-sciences-related information. Any results provided to you by this service may not be a complete listing of all the information available on any given topic.
